About the Run
Client: SPD
Project: Medal Design for their Inaugural “Breaking Barriers” Virtual Run
Year: 2017
JAB Design was the Run’s Official Design Partner.
The Challenge
SPD wanted a distinctive medal for their “Breaking Barriers” Virtual Run — something that wasn’t just a memento, but a symbol of resilience and inclusion.

SPD Breaking Barriers Virtual Run. Run anywhere, anytime and support people with disabilities. Logo designed by JAB Design.
The Idea
We designed a medal that literally breaks into two halves — with magnetic pieces that snap back together. One side reads BREAK BAR, the other KING RIERS. Joined, they form BREAKING BARRIERS.
This creative mechanism turned the medal into a storytelling object: every participant could feel the act of breaking barriers and reuniting strength.

The medal is cleverly designed to split into two halves down the middle. The two halves are held together by embedded magnets, allowing them to “snap” neatly back into place when joined, forming the full phrase “BREAKING BARRIERS.” Designed by JAB Design.
The Outcome
-
Memorable design that participants still talk about.
-
A medal that wasn’t just an award, but an embodiment of the cause.
-
Proof of how thoughtful design can spark emotion and reinforce a brand’s mission.
Customer Success Story
The public is made more aware of SPD and its integral role in providing programmes and services to enable persons with disabilities to maximise their potential so that they can be self-reliant and independent.
